FAQ

Who are you?
My name is Alana, I’m a 28 year old trifecta of minority bliss (Black gay female) and mother of the child whose face plagues this site.  I’m a full time 911 dispatcher and occasional artist and musician.

Who is JC?
He is my best friend and co-parenting partner in mischief.  We met some years ago through a mutual friend and have been hanging out ever since.  We have a lot in common and we are equally nutty, so we hit it off well.

Sooo.. you guys are together or..?
We are strictly friends who wanted to raise a child together.  We are not divorcees, I am not a surrogate and he is not a sperm donor.  We are friends and we are Ju’s parents.

How did you conceive?
I did an at-home artificial insemination with the use of an Instead softcup.  This product is marketed as a menstrual cup but, whether they know it or not, a lot of women are using them to assist in getting pregnant.

How long was the process?
It took one attempt for me to get pregnant.  I napped upside-down for about forty-five minutes and then went to bed.  The next day, I was bloated to hell and figured it was either an allergy or a baby.  Nine months later..

What made you decide to co-parent?
Our friends were probably the biggest influences.  Of course, we planned and prepped and did all the standard affair between ourselves, but two of our good friends planted the seed of inception several years beforehand.  JC and I have always been close friends and since we are not in committed relationships and are gaining major strides on the age ladder, we decided to go ahead and do this.

But.. what if you stop being friends?
This question came up a lot before but rarely does now.  The way we see it, the lack of a marriage/romance stress is more in-tune to our particular lifestyle.

More to come.
